A two-time, All-Western State Conference First Team halfback, Addison Hawthorne scored 12 touchdowns to lead the 1950 PCC football team. In his sophomore season, he teamed with fellow PCC Sports Hall of Famer Al Napoleon to make up one of the most potent backfields in JC history. In 1951, Hawthorne was the co-captain of a perfect 12-0 team that won the WSC title and then the Junior Rose Bowl and national title. In the JRB, he totaled 156 yards rushing and another 76 passing while scoring two touchdowns in the Bulldogs 28-26 win over Tyler, Texas. Hawthorne is tied for 14th on the PCC all-time rushing list (1,419 yards). He went on to play two seasons at USC and was touted as the first African-American to play for the Trojans in 25 years.
