Sam Robinson was the star center of two amazing seasons of Lancers basketball in 1966-1967 and 1967-1968 under the legendary head coach and Court of Champions member Jerry Tarkanian. Robinson is PCC's all-time leading scorer with 1,604 points, averaging 22.6 points a game in his career while averaging more than 10 rebounds. He was All-State Tournament on Pasadena's 1967 state champion team that went 35-1. Then, as a sophomore, he was MVP of the 1968 state tourney that PCC lost to Cerritos in the championship game, a triple-overtime thriller. After the Tarkanian-Robinson connection produced a 67-4 record in their two seasons at PCC, the duo joined forces again at Long Beach State as Sam was Tarkanian's first recruit. Robinson had two strong years at Long Beach, helping the 49ers to two conference titles and the school's first-ever invitation to the NCAA Tournament. Robinson became Long Beach's first pro draft choice as he was selected in the first round of the ABA draft. He played two seasons for the Miami Floridians. He was inducted into the Long Beach State Hall of Fame in 1994.
