After trailing by as much as 20 points late in the first half, the Pasadena City College football team rallied to cut it to 30-26 early in the fourth quarter of its SCFA non-league game at Allan Hancock College. The Lancers though couldn't finish the comeback as the Bulldogs sealed a 37-26 home win on a 30-yard touchdown interception return by Mystikal Wilson with two minutes left.
The pick six was one of five interceptions made by the AHC defense against new PCC quarterback Mario Bobadilla, who was activated for the first time this week. Bobadilla had a bittersweet collegiate debut as he passed for 278 yards and keyed the Lancers rally with three touchdown passes. The 6-foot freshman from Franklin High connected on TD passes of 3 yards to Kaleb Prejean, 30 yards to Stevie Williams, and 28 yards to tight end Jordan Bruner.
When kicker Enrique Lozano drilled a 30-yard field goal only 1:50 into the fourth quarter, the Lancers had cut the lead to just four. Lozano hit two extra points and kicked a 33-yard FG in the first quarter. Lozano sent touchbacks on three of his kickoffs.
Transfer wide receiver Kyle Torres continues to be consistent in all-purpose yardage as he made five receptions for 105 yards and added two kick returns for 42 yards. Williams totaled six catches for 91 yards. Running back James Shaw carried 17 times for 94 yards.
On defense, letterman linebacker Jasper Chavez made nine tackles while linebacker Kimani Williams had seven solo tackles (eight overall).
Next Saturday, Sept. 23, PCC hosts Southwestern College in a 6 p.m. SCFA non-league kickoff at Robinson Stadium.
PCC GRIDIRON NOTES: The Lancers have now lost 14 straight games on the road dating back to 2014...Frosh quarterback Ian Brian's PCC career is over after two games and despite a No. 3 place in the state passing rankings. Brian decided to leave the team for personal reasons...Bobadilla became the third different starter at QB in as many weeks this season. First game starter and sophomore transfer Adam Besana was lost with an injury in the opener and will likely pursue a medical redshirt as he will not return this season...Williams has 15 receptions for 307 yards in two games, averaging 20.2 yards per catch. He leads the state in receiving yards per game at 153.5...Torres is actually the team leader in yards per catch at 21.8 with 10 receptions for 218 yards over three contests...The program's losing streak is now at five games dating back to last season.
