The Pasadena City College men's soccer team stayed undefeated at 3-0-2 this year under first-year head coach Henry Cabral after posting a 2-0 win at local rival Glendale Friday night. PCC is undefeated despite playing all five its games thus far on the road. The Lancers are also 4-0-4 overall going back to the last three games of 2015.
In a very fast-paced and high skilled contest under the lights at Sartoris Field, PCC ended up scoring its goals in a 3-minute span of the second half. In the 63rd minute, Manuel Chavez was fouled inside the box and it resulted in him blasting in a penalty kick for a 1-0 lead. In the 65th minute, Guillermo Zetina perfectly placed a free kick from near the sideline at the 10-yard line that reached the far left corner of the net for the second goal. The Lancers goals were the team's only two shots of the second half.
PCC's goalies played well with Kristopher Guerra making four saves and driving long kick-outs in the first half and then Yusuf Elmasri totaling five saves to combine for the shutout.
Glendale pressed PCC and it resulted in 17 shots for the Vaqueros, but PCC's defense led by Joshua Moran and Jesus Garcia slowed them down enough to not get too many high quality scoring chances.
On offense, Diego Rodriguez moved the ball frequently into Glendale territory and reserve Satchel Robinson was a force with his speed.
"We have so much depth that we've not lost a bit when we've made substitutions," Cabral said. "We beat a very good Glendale team, one of the best squads they have had in a while. Our players are getting some early success and you can see the confidence level get higher each game. We need to sustain that going into a very tough South Coast Conference schedule."
PCC plays the first of eight SCC North Division games on Tuesday, Sept. 27 when they play at perennial state power Mt. San Antonio. The game will be played under the lights at 6 p.m.
