Romio Sislian scored with a minute left before halftime for the deciding goal in a 2-1 victory for the Pasadena City College men's soccer team at Southwestern College on Friday. The Lancers evened their record to 1-1.
The letterman forward Sislian got loose in a 1-on-1 v. the Jaguars goalie after receiving a header lead pass and knocked in the winner. In the 21st minute, the Lancers jumped ahead 1-0 when Bryan Garcia sent a cross to Eduardo Gonzales, who went from the corner and drove to the net, putting in a short-range shot inside the front post. Southwestern tied it in the 35th minute on a penalty kick goal.
Redshirt freshman David Quinonez made seven saves and was helped by strong defense in the middle by Lucas Rodriguez and a key defensive play by Marvin Moreno, who prevented a possible tying goal with Quinonez forced out of position. PCC withstood a Jaguars attack over the last 10 minutes of the match to secure its first victory of 2018. Watson nearly scored on a second-half free kick that hit the cross bar.
PCC next returns to action on Friday, Sept. 7 in a 3 p.m. road match at Antelope Valley College.
