Men's Track and Field Begins 2018 At SCC Season Opener

Sophomore transfer Martin Swan highlighted the start of the 2018 Pasadena City College men's track and field team's year with a second place finish overall in the 200-meter sprint at the South Coast Conference Season Opener meet held at El Camino College on Feb. 2.

Swan, who competed in hurdles as a freshman last year at Azusa Pacific University, won the second of four heats in the 200, winning his race in a time of 22.50 seconds. El Camino and first heat race winner Dhahran Woods placed first overall at 22.34. Swan was a Pacific League champion in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles as a senior a few years ago at Burbank High. Another Burbank grad and PCC sophomore letterman Justin Smith placed second in heat #3, but was 11th overall at 23.98.

In the shot put, freshman Gabriel Ramos (Temple City High) finished fifth overall with a throw of 12 meters. In the 3,000-meter run, freshman William Su (Newbury Park Academy) grabbed third in the secondary heat and 29th overall at 9:38.32.

The PCC men's track and field team is directed by second-year head coach Innocent Egbunike.
