Brennan Doyle won the 400-meter dash and Miles Johnson tied for first in the high jump for the Pasadena City College men's track and field team's best finishes at the Cerritos College Opener Meet held February 23-24. PCC then participated at the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational on March 3.
Doyle raced to victory with a time of 48.90 seconds, currently the state's seventh fastest mark and second best among South Coast Conference athletes. Johnson leaped 6 feet, 2.75 inches as his high jump mark is ninth in California. Martin Swan placed third in the 110 hurdles, but his 14.87 seconds time is now No. 5 in the state. Swan's fourth place in the 200 meters (22.24) is 10th in the state.
Also at Cerritos, the Lancers relay teams performed well as the 4x100 relay hit the tape in third place overall at 42.19, good enough for No. 4 among California teams. The 4x400 relay squad reached No. 5 in the state with a 3:18.94 time.
At the CSULA Invite, Kalen Marshall placed 11th against several 4-year university athletes but his 11.02 mark in the 100-meter dash puts him #21 among state racers. Marshall had run 11.03 a week earlier at Cerritos to win his heat and take third overall in that meet. Doyle and Marshall raced 22.19 in the 200 to tie for fourth place and move into the top 20 in state. Johnson was fifth in the long jump at 21-5.25 (21st in state) and took fourth in the high jump. Gabriel Ramos finished third in the shot put at 39-9.25.
