Brennan Doyle won the 400-meter title with a 48.89 second mark at the Occidental College Distance Carnival on March 10 in leading the Pasadena City College men's track and field team at the past two meets. The Lancers also took part in the March 17 Bakersfield Relays.
Doyle's mark beat all 80 participants over 13 heats, including 4-year university performers, in taking first in the opening heat. However, his time is only 11th in the state in the event. It is second among all South Coast Conference sprinters.
Kalen Marshall placed fifth overall at 49.90, winning heat No. 5. Uri Mafate was 22nd overall with a time of 11.41 in the 100-meter dash. The Lancers squad of Marshall, Keyvan Duran, Martin Swan and Doyle placed second in the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:21.43. The team's fastest relay time of 3:18.94 at the Cerritos Open on February 23 is still No. 6 in the state. PCC's 42.19 race in the 4x100 relay at that same Cerritos meet currently is No. 4 in the state. Swan is sixth in California in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.87, another mark peformed at Cerritos.
Also at the Oxy meet, Dylan Che ran a 4:20.57 in the 1,500 meters (65th overall). Miles Johnson was 12th in the long jump at a leap of 20-feet, 11.75 inches. Johnson's best of 6-2.75 high jump of earlier this year remains tied for 10th in that event. Gabriel Ramos placed 17th in the shot put at 35-1. Alexis Arevalo was 13th in the 10,000 meters, but his 37:53.65 is good enough for 17th in the state.
At the Bakersfield Relays, Doyle was second in the 400 at 49.20 and the 4x400 relay also scored a second in 3:26.11. Duran placed fourth in the 400 (51.60) and 10th in the 200 (23.65). Mafate won his heat No. 2 in the 100 (11.55, eighth overall) and finished ninth overall in the 200 at 23.19. Johnson was fourth in the high jump and fifth in the long jump. Trevor Abe crossed the line in fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:54.28, 17 seconds faster than his time at the Oxy meet.
Coach Innocent Egbunike's Lancers will return to action on April 6 when they take part in the Arnie Robinson Twilight Invitational held at San Diego Mesa College.
