Relay, Whitt Win For PCC At Bakersfield Relays

Jared Whitt improved on his state second-best mark in winning the triple jump and he was part of the triumphant Lancers 4x100 meter relay squad as the top Pasadena City College men's track and field performances at the Bakersfield Relays held March 16.

Whitt leaped 47-feet, 1.75 inches, beating his previous high by nearly five inches. The squad of Uri Mafate, Whitt, Jason Byrd and Asher Smith won the 4x100 relay in a time of 43.20 seconds, 19th in the state thus far. Miles Johnson took second in the high jump with a modest 5-10.75. 

Trevor Abe placed second in the 3,000 steeplechase with a 27th in state time of 11:08.81. Giovanni Guajardo scored third in the 1,500 at 4:21.56. 

Smith placed third in the 100 meters with his season-best time of 11.04 (41st in state). Whitt won heat #3, but was sixth overall at 11.51. Smith placed sixth in the 200 (22.55) while Andrew Villa won heat #3, 14th overall at 24.48. Quinten May was eighth in the 400 (51.9) while Mafate won heat #3 at 52.58 (ninth overall). Colin Schwantner placed seventh in the 800 (2:09.91) and Mohammed Halin was sixth in the 5,000 (17:37.74). 

The 4x400 relay team ran its best time in fourth place at 3:32.66 (28th in state) behind May, Mafate, Dylan Che and Bryan Huang.

Josh Tan finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 40 feet, 4 inches (41st in state).
