Men's Track Season Closes

Great expectations for some Pasadena City College athletes ended with disappointment at the Southern California Men's Track and Field Prelims/Championships held May 4/11 at Riverside City College.

After leading the state in the triple jump at 14.79 meters, Jared Whitt scored a third in the prelims at 14.05 meters. He also qualified in the long jump event (6.55 meters). However, an undisclosed injury ended his state meet chances as he had to scratch from both events at the SoCal Finals.

Miles Johnson, a state qualifier as a freshman, settled for 10th place in the high jump (1.85 meters) and Lancers teammate Justin Campbell was 11th in the event.

The Lancers 4x100 relay team was 12th overall in a time of 44.37 seconds. Asher Smith was 23rd in the prelims with a 11.05 second time in the 100-meter dash.

It was the second time in the last three years that PCC failed to score at the SoCal Championships. Last year, the team took 15th place.
