Humphrey Stands Out For Men's Track and Field As 2020 Season Opens

At the season-opening Battle of the Regions Meet held at Bakersfield College on Friday, the Pasadena City College men's track and field team was highlighted by sprinter Tobias Humphrey. The freshman from Muir High won his heat in the 100 meters and placed fourth overall with an 11.38 seconds time.

Humphrey was seventh in the 200 meters (23.12) and helped PCC earn a strong third in the 4x100 relay as the No. 2 racer. The squad of freshman Rafic Elhassanieh (Alhambra High), Humphrey, Eddie Jones, and letterman Asher Smith ran a time of 44.66, only .46 of a second behind first place Fresno City's mark. 

Sophomore William Su placed ninth in the 3,000 meters at 9:19.18 and 11th in the 1,500 (4:14.98). Su also was part of the team's 4x400 relay with sophomore Giovanni Guajardo, letterman Colin Schwantner and freshman Sanjay Pfupajena, from Arcadia High, as they placed 12th at 3:49.73. Jones was 20th in the 200 (23.77).

Freshman Myles Keys (San Marino HS) tossed 33-feet-1 in the shot put for 16th and newcomer Ethan Lower (Pilgrim High) 17th (32-2.75). Keys tossed 91-1 in the discus for 23rd place.

On Saturday, Feb. 22, the Lancers host the Pasadena City College Open meet at the refurbished track at Robinson Stadium. PCC is coached by Innocent Egbunike, in his 4th season in charge of the program.
