Pasadena City College men's cross country team leader Eduardo Urbina placed 70th overall out of 196 runners at the Southern Calfiornia Championships held November 3 at Santa Clarita's Central Park as he qualified as an individual for the CCCAA State meet.
The sophomore Urbina's time of 22:42.2 was far and away the best mark of Lancers runners over the 4-mile course as the team closed out the '17 season with a 22nd place finish out of 28 scoring teams at SoCal.
Felipe Loera placed 96th (23:09.3) and Dylan Che 97th (23:09.6) to follow Urbina. Also for PCC, Trevor Abe finished in 132nd (23:55.4), then Keyvan Duran in 157th (24:49.6), Antonio Alvarez in 160th (24:59.7), and Alexis Arevalo in 167th (25:10.4).
Since 2009, the PCC men's program has only advanced as a team to the state meet twice--last year's 27th place under current second-year head coach Innocent Egbunike, and a 22nd place showing in 2012.
Urbina will run at the state meet held annually at Fresno's Woodward Park on Saturday, Nov. 18.
