Five Straight Wins for PCC Softball

For the fifth straight game, the Pasadena City College softball team hammered an opponent to win by mercy rule as the Lancers defeated host Compton, 13-5, Tuesday in five innings.

Ranked No. 8 in SoCal, PCC scored eight runs in the top of the first inning and coasted to their fifth consecutive win, improving to 13-6 overall and 8-3 in South Coast Conference games. 

Centerfielder Gabi Perez roped an inside-the-park home run while second baseman Danielle Ruiz batted 3-for-3. Catcher Nathalia Velasquez reached base four times (2-for-2, double, two walks) and third baseman Samantha Diaz was 1-for-2 with a triple, four of the team's 10 stolen bases, three runs scored, plus two walks.  

Britney Lopez (3-2) won her third straight game in as many appearances with four innings of 5-hit relief (two earned runs, four strikeouts).

PCC is fourth in the state in stolen bases with 60 as Diaz (15) and Perez (14) lead the speedy group.

Since the start of the 2017 season up to date, head coach Monica Tantlinger has guided her teams to a 64-38-1 record (.571 win percentage)

On Thursday, March 14, the Lancers travel to face Cerritos College in a 3 p.m. conference start.
