The Pasadena City College women's badminton team beat host De Anza, 16-5, and then participated in the Coast Conference individual tournament on March 16-17 to close out their annual trip to Northern California.
Lancers No. 1 player Natalie Ong won her two singles matches, defeating De Anza No. 1 Negar Hosseini, 21-11, 21-6, and downing No. 2 Madison Ng, 21-10, 21-8. PCC's No. 2 Amy Huang won v. Hosseini, 21-14, 21-14, and swept Ng, 21-10, 21-18. Xiaoming Yao, at No. 3, won a slugfest over De Anza No. 3 Natalie Zeitman, 21-17, 19-21, 21-8 and beat No. 4 Rose Zhou, 21-9, 21-5.
At No. 4, PCC's Jessica Lee also outlasted Zeitman in three sets, 21-10, 9-21, 21-14, while sweeping Zhou, 21-14, 23-21. PCC's bottom ladder players Grace Bajar and Asiana Pitackul each won one singles. In doubles, Ong-Huang took care of business with two sweeps, the toughest a 21-13, 25-23 win over De Anza's Hosseini-Ng.
At the round-robin Coast Tournament held at City College of San Francisco, Ong, Huang, Yao and Lee each won two singles matches. Ong-Huang won their two doubles contests. Scores of the matches were not available at press time of this release.
PCC head coach Jen Ho saw her team's streaks continue with the regular season match streak now at 38 matches and its overall win string at 16 matches. On Friday, Mar. 23, the Lancers return to the floor with a South Coast Conference match at Compton College (2 p.m.).
