Pasadena City College women's basketball sophomore forward Alisa Shinn reached a pinnacle only one other Lancer had reached in school history--pass the 40-point mark---but it wasn't enough as state No. 12-ranked Los Angeles Trade Tech downed No. 20 PCC, 74-62, Friday night on Coaches v. Cancer Night at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

Shinn's 41 points, the most ever by Joe Peron-coached player, was only exceeded by school record holder Cara Vergo, who scored 48 points in a 1990 game against Compton College. It was the 6-foot-3 Shinn who all but single-handedly rallied the Lancers from 17 points down to cut it to one, 56-55, with 8:42 left. Shinn scored 14 points and grabbed eight of her game-high 19 rebounds in the third quarter. LA Trade Tech led 44-33 at the half and was ahead 51-34 with eight minutes left in the third period. Seven minutes later, Shinn's layup cut it to 54-52.

In the fourth quarter, Shinn hit a basket and then 1-of-2 free throws that sliced LATT's lead to one. But LA Trade Tech responded by trapping PCC's guards and regained its scoring touch. A steal and layup by Orianna Shirley upped the Beavers' lead to 66-57. Playing with four fouls in the fourth period, Shinn scored on a put-back with 2:09 left for points 40 and 41, but she would not get another attempt.

The Beavers (19-6) maintained first place in the SCC North Division at 6-1 in their quest to end Mt. San Antonio's 16-year streak of titles. PCC (16-11) saw its season-best, 4-game win streak snapped and fell to 4-3 in the division.

Shinn made 17 of 32 field goal attempts and was 7-for-14 from the line. Frosh center Mercy Odima picked up another double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds to go with five blocks and four assists. The other five Lancers who played combined for just 4-for-29 from the field and only 10 points. While LATT made eight shots from outside the 3-point arc, PCC made only 1-for-9.

LA Trade Tech forced Pasadena into 25 turnovers. PCC shot poorly overall from the free thow line at 11-for-26 (42.3 percent). The Beavers jumped out to a commanding 33-16 first-quarter lead thanks to Cheyenne McKinnie, who landed three 3-pointers as part of her 21 points.

Shinn has skyrocketed in the all-time PCC scoring list, now at No. 8 with 896 points. Her 556 points this season is already the second highest in one regular season, only being exceeded by PCC Hall of Famer Tiana Sanders in 1998-1999.

PCC next travels to face Mt. San Antonio on Friday, Feb. 9 in 5 p.m. tip-off.
