Pasadena City College women's basketball head coach Joe Peron was surprised to receive in the mail this week a special recognition. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors honored Peron with a certificate of celebration on his breaking the all-time coaching wins record for all sports at PCC.

Peron broke the previous record set by PCC Hall of Fame softball coach Sandi Iverson (562 victories, 1979-2006) in a February victory over East Los Angeles. His 564 career victories in 26 seasons directing the Lancers basketball program now tops all coaching wins in men's and women's sports since PCC began athletics in 1925 as Pasadena Junior College.

The certificate was signed by Kathryn Barger, supervisor of the 5th District, the largest district in LA County. The document was inscribed with the following: "With sincere congratulations and best wishes the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles does hereby join in your celebration."

Peron was truly grateful for the honor. "To get recognized by the entire LA County is something I'll cherish. It is sometimes hard to believe I have this record, but to see that our county government cared enough to honor me is special. It's also a credit to those involved in community college athletics and that our accomplishments are important."
