Leading goal scorer and freshman forward-midfielder Katy Coats was one of four Lancers to be selected to the 2018 All-South Coast Conference North Division Women's Soccer Team. Coats, from Maranatha High, scored 11 goals and added two assists and made First Team. She had a foot in all 13 of PCC's goals this season in 18 matches.
A glance at the Pasadena City College women's soccer team won-loss-tie record is not pretty. The Lancers are 1-11-4 overall this season and only 0-6-1 in South Coast Conference North Division games. A number of factors have contributed to the dismal season, but PCC interim head coach Francisco Cantero has used new game plans with a small healthy roster to make the Lancers a tougher opponent.
For the third straight game and sixth time in the last eight matches, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team was shut out by an opponent. On Friday, it was state No. 14-ranked and South Coast Conference first-place Chaffey that handed the Lancers a 4-0 defeat at Robinson Stadium.
Katy Coats never stopped shooting in Pasadena City College's women's soccer game against visiting Compton on Tuesday. The freshman forward used her right leg to bombard Compton goalie Rosalyn Ascencio and her surrounding defenders. She shot from everywhere, creating a bevy of scoring chances. But for the game's first 67 minutes, Ascencio stoned Coats with some brilliant stops, while other attempts were near misses wide and high of the posts and crossbar.
For the third straight game, The Pasadena City College women's soccer team earned a 2-2 tie with the same player--forward Katy Coats--scoring a late tying goal. Coats has come to the rescue in all three of the games, this time scoring on a penalty kick with seven minutes left for Friday's 2-2 draw at Antelope Valley College.
For the second straight game, Pasadena City College women's soccer team forward Katy Coats spurred a comeback. With the Lancers down 2-0, Coats scored a pair of goals in an eight-minute span late in the second half to give PCC a 2-2 tie v. Palomar in the team's home opener at Robinson Stadium on Tuesday.
With a few minutes left and the team trailing 2-1, Pasadena City College women's soccer head coach Francisco Cantero moved up his top defender Alexxis Molinar to try create some offense. The strategy paid off when Molinar drew a foul leading to a free kick for forward Katy Coats. The freshman delivered driving in the tying goal in the 90th minute to give the Lancers a 2-2 tie at Allan Hancock College Friday afternoon.
Led by new head coach Francisco Cantero, a playing men's alumnus, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team will try to rebuild and look to improve at a steady pace during the 2018 season. The Lancers bring back an All-South Coast Conference First Team defender in Alexxis Molinar and four others from last year's squad. Fourteen newcomers are a part of a 20-player roster.
Francisco Cantero, a former Pasadena City College soccer talent from 2009-2010, has been hired as the interim head coach of the Lancers women's soccer team for the 2018 season. Cantero was an assistant coach the past two seasons for the PCC men's soccer team.
