With a few minutes left and the team trailing 2-1, Pasadena City College women's soccer head coach Francisco Cantero moved up his top defender Alexxis Molinar to try create some offense. The strategy paid off when Molinar drew a foul leading to a free kick for forward Katy Coats. The freshman delivered driving in the tying goal in the 90th minute to give the Lancers a 2-2 tie at Allan Hancock College Friday afternoon.

Coats, who has two goals in two games, drove in a powerful kick from 30 yards out into the upper corner. The goal capped a wild final 40 minutes after the game was scoreless for the first 50. In the 51st minute, Coats took a corner kick and sophomore Yulissa Macias redirected the shot for the goal and a 1-0 PCC lead. Hancock answered in the 64th minute on a 20-yard chip shot by Elizabeth Aldana. With eight minutes left, the host Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead when Lissette Calderon tapped in a close range shot.

Pasadena is now 0-1-1 in the young season. Goalie Samantha Martinez made three saves.

Cantero was pleased with the effort by his squad. "After a tough loss the day before, the team showed great character to fight back and tie this game. They never gave up and were rewarded with a draw. In the first half, there was a slow tempo that I think worked to our advantage as we had more energy in that second half."

On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Lancers make their home debut at Robinson Stadium with a 4 p.m. contest against Palomar College.
