For the third straight game, The Pasadena City College women's soccer team earned a 2-2 tie with the same player--forward Katy Coats--scoring a late tying goal. Coats has come to the rescue in all three of the games, this time scoring on a penalty kick with seven minutes left for Friday's 2-2 draw at Antelope Valley College.

Reserve midfielder Sarah Mendoza (Blair High) drew a foul in the box that set up Coats (Maranatha High) for the PK. It was the second time in the game that Coats rallied the Lancers. PCC trailed 1-0 before she got a through ball from Erica Perez (Marshall Fundamental) and launched a 40-yard bomb for the Lancers first goal in the 33rd minute.

Antelope Valley was credited with 24 shots to just three by PCC, but despite the Marauders attack, the Lancers earned the tie to move to 0-1-3 on the season. PCC starting goalie Yulissa Macias made seven saves over the first 57 minutes and then Deanna Campos made her goaltending debut, making four saves over the last 33 minutes. The goalie pair both started the season as field players but have been recruited by goalie coach Andrea Otero to help PCC's depth at goalie. Macias played the position last year as well.

"Both Yulissa and Deanna came up huge, making big saves that kept us in it," said PCC head coach Francisco Cantero. "We showed so much fight in coming back twice even with Antelope Valley attacking us repeatedly. Katy has been a go-to player on offense has risen to the occasion for us."

On Tuesday, Sept. 18, the Lancers play at LA Harbor College as they look for their first win under Cantero, in his first season directing from the PCC sideline. Game time is 1 p.m.
