Teammates in high school and at Pasadena City College, 2018 women's soccer players Alexxis Molinar and Amanda Avila both signed scholarships to attend separate universities in 2019.

Molinar, a two-time, All-South Coast Conference First Team defender, is headed to NCAA Division III University of La Verne while Avila, an All-SCC Second Team defender, will move on to NAIA Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. The two players played together at Temple City High before joining the Lancers program in 2017.

Molinar talked about her journey at PCC and why she chose La Verne as a 4-year destination.

"I originally was recruited by La Verne but coming out of high school, I felt I wasn't academically ready to go there," Molinar said. "I enjoyed the team chemistry of playing for PCC and felt like I had a lot of support from coaches and staff. It was like being a part of a family. Getting to use the (Academic Athletic) Zone was great for my studies. I reconnected with La Verne and the coach still wanted me, so it really worked out well."

Both Molinar and Avila are majoring in Elementary Education.

The duo played the 2018 season under first-year head coach Francisco Cantero.
