From the start of the Pasadena City College women's soccer program in 1997 through 1999, the Lancers had plenty of high-scoring team performances. In fact, seven times during that span PCC reached 10 or more goals in a game. What few knew until this release, Friday's 11-1 home rout over West Los Angeles was the first time the Lancers accomplished the feat in 20 years.

You have to go back to the 1999 season finale, a 15-0 win over Compton College for the last time the program reached double digits.

At Robinson Stadium, the state #14-ranked Lancers set a school record for shots with 60 and netted eight goals in the second half. State-leading scorer Katy Coats reached five goals for the second time this season and added two assists as the sophomore already has 20 goals in eight matches.

Directed by second-year head coach Francisco Cantero, PCC extended its season-long undefeated streak to 5-0-3 but ended a stretch of three games in a row that ended in ties. The last time PCC opened a season undefeated through eight games was in 2007 (4-0-4).

Coats took 19 of her team's shot attempts and scored the team's first two goals in the 19th and 26th minutes. Jillian Demasi added a goal and two assists while Kaily Echeverria, Isabella Gonzalez-Mosqueda, and Priscilla Lucero each tallied a goal and an assist. Ashley Rivera scored a single goal as did Amanda Howard, making her collegiate debut.

West LA (0-4) had two big individual performances from goalie Jessica Alvarez, who made an incredible 20 saves and defender Gabriella Munguia, who three times made defensive blocks deep in the box that likely prevented Pasadena goals.

Howard, Coats and Demasi all scored in a four-minute span early in the second half.

PCC now has a state-leading 40 goals in eight games. Coats career totals has risen to place her sixth on the all-time PCC scoring list with 31 goals and nine assists for 71 points. She is fifth in goals scored in the program's history.

On Sept. 24, the Lancers trailed on three different occasions, but rallied each time as Echeverria picked up the game-tying goal in the 88th minute for a 3-3 tie at Oxnard College.

Coats has scored goals in seven of the team's eight games while Echeverria (eight overall) has goals in six of the Lancers' contests.

On Tuesday, Oct. 1, the Lancers play at East Los Angeles in a 4 p.m. game.
