Without its No. 1 swimmer Melissa Cienega due to illness, the Pasadena City College women's swim team didn't miss a beat in sweeping a South Coast Conference double dual meet over East Los Angeles, 158-85, and Chaffey, 153-81, at the Aquatic Center on March 30.

The Lancers improved to 5-1 in second place of the SCC dual standings and 6-2 overall. East LA won its dual v. Chaffey, 122-110.

Coach Terry Stoddard's team relied on other sources than PCC 2016-17 Women's Athlete of the Year Cienega. In the 200-yard medley relay, the squad of Sharon Perez, Jocelyn Jo, Maryjane Martinez, and recently added sophomore Dain Kim (from 2016 Lancers) won in a time of 2:02.52.

Jo, who was the Co-SCC Swimmer of the Year as a freshman, won her three events in the 200 butterfly (2:27.34), 200 breaststroke (2:34.32), and 200 individual medley (2:23.29). Showing her tremendous versality was sophomore Perez, who also captured three event victories in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.94), the 200 backstroke (2:27.38), and 50 freestyle (26.42).

Letterman Lindsay Jensen scored wins in the 1,000 freestyle (13:16.83) and 500 freestyle (6:20.59). Martinez picked up a win in the 100 butterfly (1:10.96) and was second in the 100 (1:11.66) and 200 backstroke (2:38.47). Kim swam to second in the 50 freestyle (27.86) and 100 freestyle (1:04.28). Karina Mendoza placed second in the 200 freestyle (2:44.65) while Erica Sanchez finished the same in the 100 butterfly (1:36.11). Josie King took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:41 flat).

"The whole team came together and showed that we indeed have some depth," Stoddard said. "It was good to see Sharon Perez and Lindsay Jensen step up and give us high points in their events. Martinez and Kim swam well too. We are going to keep practicing hard and pushing to be at our best at the SCC Championships."

PCC closes the dual season on Friday, Mar. 30, when the Lancers take on LA Trade Tech and host Cerritos. Meet time is 12:30 p.m.
