Event victories don't happen often for the Pasadena City College women's track and field team so the Lancers were excited when freshman Claire Chen won the 100-meter hurdles Friday at the Bakersfield Battle of the Regions meet.

Chen (Rosemead High) beat a small 4-runner field with a time of 19.18 seconds.

Sophomore Raylin Galvan was 12th in the 3,000 meters at 14:39.85.

In the team's opening El Camino All-Comers meet held Feb. 1, letterman Kessa Rychlick placed third in the 200-meter sprint at 28.31. She was eighth in the 60 meters at 8.71. Chen took 10th (9.4) and freshman Abigail Olivares was 11th (9.54).

Coach Innocent Egbunike's Lancers return to action on Friday, Feb. 22 at the Cerritos Open meet.
