Liz Ghazanchian closed out her 2-year career as a Pasadena City College women's track and field thrower by scoring a fifth place medal in the discus at the 3C2A State Track and Field Championships held at Modesto Junior College on Friday-Saturday.

Ghazanchian came up shorter than she liked with her 127-feet, 3-inch throw but her four points allowed the Lancers to be one of 39 different colleges to score points at the state meet. PCC officially tied for 31st place with four points.

Her fifth place is the highest individual finish by a PCC women's track student-athlete in 10 years when Omhunique Brown was a double-state champion in the 100 and 200 meters in 2013.

It's the highest placing by a women's field athlete since 2007 when Essence Wyatt scored the silver in the triple jump. Finally, it's the highest finish by a PCC thrower in any state event this century.

The sophomore's personal best throw of 144-5 at the SoCal Championships (third place) would have been good enough for the silver at state.

Sophomore javelin thrower Joelyne Garcia hurled a 105-2 for 10th place in the other PCC-participated event. Her 111-3 as a freshman at the SoCals remained her career best.

PCC is directed by head coach Innocent Egbunike.
