All year, freshman Olivia Ruiz established herself as the Pasadena City College women's cross country team's No. 1 runner, including an All-South Coast Conference First Team performance. Ruiz finished the 2019 season by taking 33rd individually out of 167 racers at the CCCAA State Championship meet held Nov. 23 at Fresno's Woodward Park.
Pasadena City College's Olivia Ruiz kept her outstanding freshman season going as she raced 19th overall at the SoCal Women's Cross Country Championships held Friday at San Diego's Mission Bay, 5-kilometer course. Ruiz raced a time of 20:29.2, a 51-second improvement and six-place jump from her Sept. 13 finish on the same course.

Pasadena City College women's cross country runner Olivia Ruiz decided to see what it's like in front of the pack as she broke out to an early lead at the SoCal Preview Meet held Sept. 13 at Mission Bay. And while Ruiz didn't keep that pace, the freshman showed why she may be an upper echelon racer as she placed 25th overall out of 209 runners over the 5-kilometer course.
It was a welcome sight on Saturday when the Pasadena City College women's cross country team scored as a team for the first time since 2017. And while the Lancers placed 21st among 22 teams, the Lancers were pleased to compete as a squad against 4-year university competition in the 5-kilometer race at Fullerton's Craig Regional Park.
The Pasadena City College women's cross country team is hoping to move forward in 2019. With an inticipated roster of eight student-athletes, two raced in the season-opening Ventura Invitational on Aug. 30 at Arroyo Verde Park.
