    All year, the Pasadena City College baseball team relied on its ability to reach base and create runs to reach 25 victories and a South Coast Conference North Divison Co-Championship. In the team's SoCal Regional Round 1 series, #2 seed El Camino's pitching shut down the visiting #15 Lancers offense and swept PCC in the best-of-3 sereis on May 3-4.

    Two years ago, Lancers rightfielder Shane Ogata caught the pennant fever on his way to helping the Pasadena City College baseball team end a 45-year drought in winning the South Coast Conference title. On Thursday, Ogata, a medical redshirt who missed the entire 2018 season, reached base five times and helped PCC capture the 2019 SCC North Division championship with a 9-3, regular-season ending victory at Cerritos.

    Sophomore righthander Patrick Pena and freshman centerfielder Gabriel Arellano each etched their names into the Pasadena City College baseball record books on Tuesday when Pena earned his eighth win of the season, the most in the modern era by a Lancers pitcher, while Arellano shattered the program's single-season hits record now at 68.

    The Pasadena City College baseball team recorded its 12th win by double figures this season in a 16-5 blowout win at Victor Valley on Friday. It was also the sixth time in 2019 that the Lancers reached at least 16 runs in a game. PCC upped its record to 22-13.

The Lancers had both their 6-game win streak and 6-game home winning streaks snapped in consecutive days, losing at Long Beach City, 5-3, on Monday and falling to Los Angeles Harbor, 5-4, at Brookside Park on Tuesday.

    Trailing 5-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday, the Pasadena City College baseball team had the Long Beach City Vikings right where they wanted them in their 2019 South Coast Conference opener. That's because the Lancers have dug themselves out of similar holes in the past two seasons. Sure enough, the Lancers scored two in the seventh, four in the eighth to tie it 6-6 and capped the rally on Shane Ogata's walk-off RBI double in the 10th to pull out a 7-6 victory.

    As good as the team's state No. 2 batting average, the Pasadena City College baseball team is relying on some of the state's best pitching as well. The Lancers lowered their team ERA to 2.41, eighth in the state, behind a 7-inning, 4-hit effort by Matt Orozco in an 8-2 win over Fullerton Tuesday afternoon.

Arellano is hitting the cover off the ball in batting .490 while Pena is a winning machine on the hill, remarkably earning wins in all four of his starting assignments.

One Lancer itching to face Glendale again was pitching ace Gordon Ingebritson.

  • Baseball Beats Merced And Weather In Home Opener

    It took four rainouts until the Pasadena City College baseball team finally was able to play its home opener at Brookside Park's Jackie Robinson Field in a rare Sunday contest against Northern California visitor Merced. Despite falling behind 2-0 after three innings, the Lancers batted around their order in both the fourth and fifth frames. PCC picked up a 9-4 victory as the rain this time only shortened the length of the game, called with Merced batting in the top of the seventh inning.
  • Baseball Suffers Pair of 1-Run Losses, Now 3-3

    For the second straight game, the Pasadena City College baseball team lost a tough 1-run affair against a pre-season SoCal top 5-ranked team. On Tuesday, No. 3-rated Palomar edged the visiting Lancers, 5-4. That came after a 3-2 loss at No. 5-ranked Cypress on Feb. 7. The unranked Lancers are 3-3 thus far in 2019.

    The Pasadena City College baseball team has batted in 18 innings thus far this season and have already thrown down a full house in high-scoring frames, plating four runs three times and five runs twice. The Lancers once again broke open a game late and waltzed over host San Diego Mesa, 13-3, on Tuesday.

The Lancers erupted for 14 hits, scored four runs in the third inning, four in the sixth and five in the seventh to rout host Citrus, 14-2, Saturday afternoon to open the 2019 season.
