Nico Calderaro, 32, returns to Coach McGee's assistant coaching staff after taking a year off in 2022. He returns as a pitching coach and recruiting coordinator in now his seventh season. His work has been impressive in his time as a McGee's top assistant with the Lancers program.

It was a watershed moment in 2019 for Calderaro as his pitching staff finished #11 in the state in ERA at 3.33, the lowest by a PCC team in at least 40 years. Ace Gordon Ingebritson set a PCC record for most wins in a career (13) and his 76 strikeouts were #2 in a PCC season. The 2-year letterman was named South Coast Conference North Division Pitcher of the Year, the first time a Lancer has ever received that honor. Sophomore righty Patrick Pena entered the college's record books with a new standard for wins in a season with nine. Both Pena and reliever Lorenzo Llorens were named All-SCC Second Team. The team averaged a new program high of 7.28 strikeouts per 9 innings.

Ingebritson was an early 4-year university signee to UC Irivine while Llorens and reliever Frank Gonzalez inked with Cal State Dominguez Hills. Reliever Matt Orozco signed with Cal Poly Pomona.

In 2018, for the second straight season, Calderaro saw two of his starting pitchers make All-South Coast Conference North Division First Team in Ingebritson and Nathan Garkow. Ingebritson was the first Lancers starter since Zack Kalter in 2004 to earn seven victories. His 2.29 ERA is the lowest by a Lancer in more than 20 years. The team's overall 4.29 ERA was the lowest by a PCC pitching staff in 15 years. PCC's eclipsed the 300 K mark, something not been accomplished by a Lancers staff in the modern era. 

In 2017, he helped with the progress of All-South Coast Conference North Division First Team starting pitchers Race Gardner and Jesse Hanckel. The All-SCC First Team pair is a first in the program's South Coast history dating back to 1987. PCC's pitching staff was a part of the equation for the Lancers winning their first SCC conference championship since 1972. PCC's pitching staff averaged just 3.2 walks per nine innings and was in the state top 15 in that control category. He coached closer Nick Esparza, who was tied for No. 5 in the state in saves with eight.

In 2015, the Lancers made significant improvement on the pitching staff with the help of Calderaro. Jason Marquez, a righthanded reliever, earned a scholarship to NCAA Division I University of Maryland Shores and righty Calvin Bonilla moved on to William Jessup University (Rocklin, CA). Pasadena's 2015 staff recorded the lowest team ERA in nine years. In 2016, the staff lowered the ERA again. Two more pitchers moved on with scholarships in Anthony Mizrahi (Cal Poly Pomona) and Eddie Gutierrez (Valley City State, North Dakota).

On the recruiting side, Calderaro brought in 22 all-conference players and the first two All-Americans in PCC's modern history in just five seasons. PCC was also achieved an impressive No. 12 spot in the final CCCSIA State Top 20 Rankings during the 2017 year. 

Calderaro is a graduate of Azusa Pacific University (B.S. Applied Exercise Science) where he earned a playing scholarship. An arm injury prevented him from playing at APU. He is currently working on his doctorate in education at Corcordia Portland University (Irvine) and is an adjunct professor in PCC's Kinesiology, Health & Athletics Division. 

In 2013, Calderaro served as pitching coach at Bonita as the team won the league title.

Calderaro pitched two seasons at Mt. San Antonio College (2010-11), earning All-South Coast Conference First Team honors as a freshman. He was a two-time All-CIF Southern Section First Team selection at Bonita High, achieving Miramonte League MVP honors his senior season in 2009. He compiled a sparkling 18-6 record and 2.06 ERA in his three prep seasons. He is a resident of La Verne.
