Eight Men's Records Broken at 18th Pasadena Invitational Swim Meet

While the Pasadena City College men's swim team has had a wonderful run this season, the Lancers learned how competitive the opponent field is in the state at the 18th Pasadena Invitational April 5-7. PCC took fifth place for the second straight year while Orange Coast snapped Golden West's 3-year title streak here for the '18 team crown.

Eight men's meet records were set (none by PCC) while OCC scored 927 points, Golden West 821.5, Mt. San Antonio taking third with 447 and Diablo Valley 426.5. The Lancers scored 348.5 points as 13 college teams participated. Only sophomore Samuel Jo won an event for PCC, taking first for the second consecutive season in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:54.07.

Jo placed third in the 100 backstroke (52.21) and fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:45.05). He was 10th in the 100 freestyle (48.08). Sydney Odent settled for second in the 1,650 freestyle in 16:49.03, took third in the 400 individual medley (4:18.45) and wa 10th in the 200 IM (2:00.92). Freshman Roman Rostomyan placed third in both the 500 freestyle (4:50.45) and 200 butterfly (1:57.38) while grabbing fifth place in the 100 butterfly (51.79). He was 13th in the 100 freestyle (48.94). Pasadena's best relay finish was a third in the 800 freestyle relay on the swimming of Rostomyan, Jo, Jayson Wilia and Odent in 7:20.23.

Last year, PCC won three events. Combined men and women, there were 13 meet records set at the 18th edition of the host invite.

Coach Terry Stoddard's Lancers next take part in the South Coast Conference Championships at Mt. San Antonio College April 19-21.
