Pasadena City College men's track and field freshman Jared Whitt won the triple jump event at the Cerritos Open meet on Feb. 23 and in doing so has the state's No. 2 best mark in 2019. Whitt took first place on a leap of 46 feet-9 inches.

Whitt is only behind San Joaquin Delta's Juwan Seales, who tops the state currently in the TJ at 47-5.75. 

Sophomore Dylan Che was the only sprinter to break two minutes as he won the 800 meters title at the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational held on Saturday. Che, whose mark is No. 15 in the state, ran a time of 1:59.78. Freshman Justin Campbell took second place in the long jump with a leap of 20-4.5. Campbell was third in the LJ at the Cerritos meet, but had his best jump thus far at 20-10.5. 

Also at Cerritos, Che won his heat and was 16th overall in the 1,500 at 4:18.41 and took 14th in the 3,000 (9:42.55). Sophomore Miles Johnson took second in the high jump at 6 feet even. Asher Smith was tied for ninth in the 100 meters at a time of 11.12 seconds. Bryan Huang was 11th in the 400 (53.06). 

At Cal State LA, Huang grabbed eighth place (23.78) and teammate Andrew Villa was ninth (24.82) in the 200 meters. Sophomore Trevor Abe placed 14th in the 3,000 meters at 10:01.14 (his 20th at Cerritos was his season best 9:54.95) while Giovanni Guajardo also placed 14th in the 1,500 in 4:37.33. 

Coached by Innocent Egbunike and assistant Pat Williams, the Lancers will be in action on Saturday, Mar. 9 at the Occidental College Distance Carnival. Events begin at 9 a.m.
