Badminton's South Coast Conference Win Streak Reaches 50

The Pasadena City College women's badminton extended its South Coast Conference winning streak to 50 matches going back to the start of the 2015 season with a 15-6 triumph at El Camino College on Friday.

Winners of the last five SCC team titles, the Lancers (3-0) are in line for a sixth as they have defeated all three conference opponents after one round (of three) of South Coast matches. The streak started under head coach Jen Ho, who has never lost a conference match since taking over the program in 2015. Ho is 63-5 overall and her PCC teams won back-to-back CCCAA state titles in 2017 and 2018. Last season, the Lancers lost in the state title match v. Fresno City College.

Against El Camino (2-1 record), #1 singles player Charisse Chow scored easy wins over ECC's #1 Marina Mongaki, 21-5, 21-6, and #2 Chloe Ferrer, 21-3, 21-4. PCC's #2 Chit Thu had a tougher time in beating Mongaki, 21-19, 21-15, while downing Ferrer, 21-10, 21-2. Lancers #3 Sophia Nguyen picked up two wins as did #5 Angie Li

In #1 doubles, Chow and Huyen Diep routed El Camino's #2 squad of Alyssa Hernandez and Miyu Kawaguchi, 21-5, 21-1. The #2 squad of Thu-Nguyen scored a victory over Warriors #1 Mongaki and Lois Murallon, 21-14, 21-10, and swept Hernandez-Kawaguchi, 21-3, 21-11. Chow-Diep did not face the #1 squad after PCC had reached the required 11 points for team victory.

On Friday, Mar. 13, the Lancers will travel to face De Anza College before participating in the NorCal Coast Conference Individual Tournament the next day (Mar. 14) also at De Anza.
