Women's Track Season Underway

The 2020 Pasadena City College women's track and field season opened on Friday at the Battle of the Regions meet held at Bakersfield College.

Freshman sprinter Imani Martin, from Monrovia High, placed seventh overall in the 200 meters (and second in her heat) with a time of 28.47 seconds. Martin also was second in her heat in the 100 meters and placed 15th overall at 13.93. Martin could be the team's top newcomer after a strong senior year in high school. Freshman Olivia Ruiz, the Lancers top cross country runner in 2019, could also be a fine distance racer. She did not participate at the season-opening meet. 

Freshman Justice Spurgeon, from California High/Whittier, placed 12th in the discus throw with a throw of 95 feet, 2 inches. She finished 24th in the shot put at 24-2.5.

Freshman Victoria Rae Chandler was 31st in the 1,500 at 6:06.01. Nathalia Caramaschi, like Chandler a member of the 2019 PCC cross country team, placed 18th in the 3,000 meters (14:06.37).

PCC is directed by head coach Innocent Egbunike, in his fourth season in charge of the women's track and field program.
