Win Streak At 5 For State #11 Women's Volleyball

The state #11-ranked Pasadena City College women's volleyball team completed its first week of South Coast Conference play with two victories, extending their current winning streak to five matches over host Mt. San Antonio, 25-19, 17-25, 25-10, 25-19, Friday night.

PCC improved to 11-2 overall while the hapless Mounties are 1-8, 0-2.

Nalani Young had an error-less hitting evening with 10 kills (24 attempts, .417) while Erykah Wilson led the team in kills with 12. Janell Currier added 10 kills and two aces.

Setter Nikki Hernandez totaled 31 assists and served three aces and libero Grace Crawford made 14 digs. Middle blocker Paulina Lopez contributed four kills and four blocks. 

Mt. SAC ended up outserving the Lancers with a 13-6 edge in aces, but PCC's net play and better hitting (.250 to .075) proved to be a difference in the match. 

After the Mounties tied the match at 1-1, Pasadena roared back in set 3 by hitting an extraordinary .565 overall (14 kills, one error, 23 attacks). PCC led as much as 18-4 in taking control of the set. In the fourth set, the teams were tied at 11-11 before the Lancers went on a 10-3 scoring run. A combined block by Izabella Hernandez and Nikki Hernandez capped the 4-set triumph.
