The state #10 Pasadena City College women's volleyball team served a season-high 15 aces in recording the Lancers' fifth straight sweep, 25-6, 25-15, 25-14, over Los Angeles Harbor on Friday night. The victory upped PCC's record to 11-3 and sparkling Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium home record to 9-1.
Bobbie Torres served all five of her aces in one serving run alone that helped open a 13-1 lead in the first set. Overall, Diana Magallon landed six aces along with five kills. JanetMarie Reyes scored two aces and set eight assists and Juyeon Lee tallied an ace while making 18 digs and dishing out four helpers.
Payton Scott led the hitters with eight kills plus two blocks and five digs, Mahrie Bedjakian slammed six kills (.556), and Machijah Harville pounded five kills. Brianna Galvan ripped three kills in four swings with two blocks, Sophia Jones scored three kills, Izzy Taylor was 3-for-3 for attack points, Savannah Curtis had two kills, and Melissa Monterroza set 16 assists.
Nineteen Lancers saw action overall.
Pasadena has reached double digits in aces in five matches this season, three in the last four contests alone.
Coach Mike Terrill's crew continues the rest of its 6-match home stand at "The Patt" with the start of South Coast Conference North Division action next week. PCC hosts Los Angeles City on Wednesday, Oct. 1 and then Rio Hondo on Friday, Oct. 3 on Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Both matches have a 6 p.m. first serve.
