After seeing a 7-match win streak stopped and first place in the South Coast Conference North Division standings taken away in a 5-set loss at state #12-ranked Mt. San Antonio on Oct. 8, the #8 Pasadena City College women's volleyball team went back to work with a sweep over host East Los Angeles, 25-20, 25-13, 25-13, on Friday night.

The Lancers (14-4 overall, 3-1 in SCC play) worked in their 20th different player to appear in a match in the 2025 season v. ELAC in frosh setter Naomi Yeoh, who shined with four service aces while making five assists in her collegiate debut.

PCC is at the halfway mark of division play.

Payton Scott swung at a .450 hitting percentage in pounding 12 kills while Juyeon Lee collected four aces, eight digs and dished out five helpers.

Bobbie Torres added six kills, Machijah Harville five kills, and a group of Maggie Hunter, Savannah Curtis, Sabiya Esquivel, and Mahrie Bedjakian each delivered three kills. Julianna Wilson set 14 assists while Arpa Khechadoorian and Jayleen Almaraz both landed two aces.

In the defeat v. Mt. SAC, 23-23, 25-20, 22-25, 25-21, 15-8, the Lancers led 2-1 in sets but couldn't complete the key contest as the Mounties gained momentum toward the final part of the match.

Scott knocked down 15 kills with 11 digs, Torres had 12 kills, 23 digs and served two aces, Delaney Blied placed 10 kills, and Lee totaled 19 digs. Wilson scored five aces while handing out 21 assists while JanetMarie Reyes set 21 assists with seven dgis.

At the end of the third set, it appeared PCC was in great shape as Torres hit a sideline kill and Diana Magallon scored a set-point ace (three overall). However, the Lancers attack floundered late with just seven kills and seven errors in the fourth set, then a rough nine errors in the fifth set while only making four kills.

Mt. SAC (12-5, 3-0 in SCC play) was led by Sydney Valentine, who led all hitters with 18 kills plus 16 digs and the defensive play of Mayah Tiscareno, who totaled 26 digs.

Pasadena will circle Wednesday, Nov. 5 on the calendar as it will have an opportunity to face Mt. San Antonio at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium in a potential contest that will decide the division championship.

PCC returns to action on Friday, Oct. 17 in a 6 p.m. SCC crossover at South Division foe Compton College. First serve is 6 p.m.
