The state #15-ranked Pasadena City College women's volleyball team swept East Los Angeles, 25-16, 25-20, 25-11, and then celebrated its eight sophomores following the win at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium on Friday night.
The Lancers (18-6 overall) took second place in the South Coast Conference North Division at 6-2. PCC will play a SCC Crossover match v. the second place team from the South Division on Friday, Nov. 14, then await its seeding in the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs.
PCC's sophomores include libero Juyeon Lee, who made 13 digs and set six assists, and outside hitter Sabiya Esquivel, who landed 10 kills in just 17 attempts (hit .588) with 11 digs. Second-year opposite Mahrie Bedjakian scored seven kills (.545) and sophomore OH Maggie Hunter pounded four kills.
The other sophomores are setter Melissa Monterroza, who had an injury cut short her season, and middle blockers Savannah Curtis, Machijah Harville, and Brianna Galvan.
In the ELAC sweep, the team's 16th in 18 triumphs, frosh OH Bobbie Torres floored 11 kills (.345), MB Samantha Munoz Gomez tallied three kills and two blocks, and MB Delaney Blied scored four kills in just five swings. Frosh setter Julianna Wilson posted 15 assits, six digs, and served four aces while fellow freshman setter JanetMarie Reyes recorded 11 assists and two aces.
Pasadena is currently 13th in regional RPI that help determine the postseason seedings.
