Ruiz 11th For PCC Women's Cross Country at '19-Opening Ventura Meet

The Pasadena City College women's cross country team is hoping to move forward in 2019. With an anticipated roster of nine student-athletes, two raced in the season-opening Ventura Invitational on Aug. 30 at Arroyo Verde Park.

Freshman Olivia Ruiz (San Marino High) placed 11th out of 39 runners overall with a time of 24:38.17 over the 5-kilometer course. Another Lancers newcomer Meline Minasian (Arcadia HS) took 21st in 27:22.81. Ventura's Olivia Burton won the race in 21:47.11 while the host Pirates also won the team title. Four teams scored or had the minimum five runners to team place. 

PCC's listed 2019 roster includes sophomores Raylin Galvan, Amanda Noriega, and Julia Reyes. The frosh corps is made up of Ruiz, Minasian, Victoriarae Chandler (Beverly Hills HS), Cora Jiron (Pasadena HS),  Wafa Kasim (Burbank Burroughs) and Natalia Caramaschi (Independent Study). 

Head coach Innocent Egbunike's Lancers are scheduled to participate again on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Biola Invitational at Fullerton's Craig Regional Park. The women's race begins at 8:45 a.m. Several runners are expected to make their first race of the year at the meet.
