Olivia Ruiz (bib 6562) held her own among 4-year university racers for the top placing of PCC women's runners at the Biola Invitational on Saturday.

It was a welcome sight on Saturday when the Pasadena City College women's cross country team scored as a team for the first time since 2017. And while the Lancers placed 21st among 22 teams, the Lancers were pleased to compete as a squad against 4-year university competition in the 5-kilometer race at Fullerton's Craig Regional Park.

The Lancers had six finishers and placed ahead of 4-year school Benedictine University of Mesa, Arizona.

Olivia Ruiz was the top PCC racer as she crossed the finish line in 135th place (216 finishers) in a standout time of 20:58.28. Next was Meline Minasian in 171st (22:33.83). Racing in a pack were sophomore Raylin Galvan (26:14, 204th) and freshmen Wafa Kasim (26:38, 208th), Victoriarae Chandler (27:03, 211th) and Cora Jiron (215th, 33:34).

With several runners getting a taste of competition for the first time at the college level, the Lancers expect to improve as they take part in the SoCal Preview Meet this Friday, Sept. 13 at Mission Bay in San Diego.
