Baseball's Jakob Guardado Named SoCal Player of Week #8

After an amazing week in which he pitched two, complete-game victories, Pasadena City College sophomore Jakob Guardado was selected SoCal Player of the Week #8 by the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association.

Jakob, the son of retired MLB All-Star closer Eddie Guardado, scattered 11 hits in a win over Long Beach (Mar. 20), then pitched a 5-hit shutout v. Mt. San Antonio five days later (Mar. 25). He walked no batters in the two wins. His line: 2-0 record, 18 innings, 16 hits, 4 earned runs, 0 walks, 13 strikeouts.

As a batter, the RHP and left-handed hitter, he helped PCC beat the Mounties with a clutch 2-run HR over the centerfield fence (Mar. 24) as he was 2-for-5 with 3 RBI on the day in a 7-4 win.

Guardado is a returning All-South Coast Conference Second Team utility selection and starts as the team's rightfielder when he doesn't pitch.
