Pasadena City College football team sophomores Kaydon Spens and Jeremiah Hartfield were named SCFA Players of the Week #2 after their skilled performances in the Lancers' 58-30 win over Los Angeles Valley College on Saturday.
A 2019 returning All-State selection at cornerback, Spens was named Defensive Player of the Week after a monster effort that included returning an interception 37 yards to set up one touchdown, blocking a punt to help create another TD, making a quarterback sack, recording two pass breakups and collecting four tackles. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound talent is a product of Burbank High.
Hartfield, who was switched from defensive back in 2019 to a slot receiver this year, earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring four touchdowns in just six touches. He hauled in three receiving scores of 35, 51, and 33 yards and added a 3-yard TD run. Hartfield, a 5-8, 185-pounder from Schurr High, made five catches for 129 yards.
This week, the Lancers (1-1) will visit Santa Monica College (1-1) in a non-league game at Corsair Field. Kickoff is 1 p.m. and fans are allowed entry with masks and must either have a COVID-19 vaccination card or show proof of a PCR negative test performed within 72 hours of the contest.
PCC is 12-4 in its history v. SMC, including a 30-2 Lancers win in the last meeting between the colleges in 2019. Santa Monica defeated Compton last week, 46-18. Corsairs QB Sam Vaulton completed 19 of 32 passes for 198 yards and three TDs.
