Idrique Carmichael led a 20-player contingent from the Pasadena City College football team on the SCFA American All-Pacific League First and Second Teams as the conference's Defensive Player of the Year. The Lancers were 5-0 in league play and recently finished a 9-2 season as they were the APL champions.
Carmichael, a freshman from Pasadena High, tied for the state lead in interceptions with seven, led PCC with eight pass-breakups, and blocked a punt that led to a team touchdown.
Sophomore running back Isaac Glover received three Second Team nods at running back, kick returner, and all-purpose as 74 players from the league's six teams were honored. Glover, from Burbank HS, led PCC in rushing with 764 yards, scored a league-leading 11 touchdowns, and also led all Pacific players with 416 kick rerturn yards.
Letterman placekicker Justin Vergara, fresh off a PCC single-game record four field goals in the American Championship Bowl, was a unanimous First Team choice after his remarkable season of making state second-leading 14-of-15 on field goals, 21-for-21 on extra point kicks, and scoring 63 points. Vergara came to PCC from Garfield High.
Other First Team selections from PCC were outside linebacker Torriq Brumfield, a freshman from PHS who totaled 57 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions (one returned for a TD) and broke up five passes; frosh defensive tackle Julius Ray (Inglewood) who second in the league in sacks with 9.5 to go with 42 tackles (team-leading 16 behind the line of scrimmage) and two forced fumbles; and sophomore offensive lineman Guadalupe Cedillo, a 6-foot-5, 325 pounder out of Arleta High, who is a 2-time First Team selection.
The rest of the First Teamers include second-year safety Devon Mayes (Monrovia) who made 36 tackles and broke up four passes; frosh quarterback Kekahi Graham (from Hawaii) who led the league in passing yards (2,013) and TD passes (21); and sophomore linebacker special teams snapper Arthur Horcasitas (20 tackles selected at utility) from Bell Gardens High.
The Second Team roll call is made up of inside linebacker Jachai Pulley (Muir HS) with a team-best 69 tackles, frosh defensive end Israel Duncan (Prarie HS, Washington state) with 20 tackles and 5.5 sacks, letterman defensive tackle Jose Oliveros (Burbank Burroughs) who made 38 tackles with 3.5 sacks; letterman defensive end Adrian Ramirez (Muir) who totaled 49 tackles, 5 sacks and broke up three passes; freshman inside linebacker Kyden Bailey (Clarkston, Washington) who tallied 41 tackles, 2.5 sacks and an interception; frosh offensive linemen Julian Navarrete (San Marino) and center Frederico Novo (PHS) along with sophomore Francisco Guerrero (Bishop Amat).
Additionally, team receptions leader and freshman wide receiver Jordan Rodriguez (South Hills HS, 43 catches, 409 yards), blocking tight end Thomas Shue (Bishop Amat, five receptions), and utility player/wide receiver Jacob Turowetz (Damien HS, 17 catches, three TDs, two conversion scores, and the team's holder for special team kicks) each made Second Team.
PCC was guided once again by Director of Football Operations/Head Coach Robert Tucker, who finished his third season at PCC with two league titles and two bowls under his belt.
