Men's Swimming Places 5th At South Coast Conference Championships

The Pasadena City College men's swim team placed fifth out of seven teams at the 2023 South Coast Conference Championships held April 20-22. If officially ends the year for Coach Terry Stoddard's crew.

Sophomore Sam Regan scored third in both the 1,650-yard (17:25.84) and 500 freestyle (5:00.92) events and fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:53.43). Regan swam slightly faster last year in the mile swim (17:22) when he also placed third in the endurance event. 

Freshman Maxwell Ribaya swam to fourth in the 100 backstroke (55.46), sixth in the 100 butterfly (53.53) and seventh in the 100 freestyle (50.38). Joseph Ng was eighth in theh 50 freestyle (23.05) while Hazem Ahmed grabbed eighth in the 400 individual medley (5:33.21). 

The 200 and 400 medley relay squads made up of Ribaya, Regan, Ng and Javier Becerra took fifth in both events in 1:46.71 and 3:55.58, respectively. Also the Lancers scored fifth in the 800 freestyle  and 400 freestyle relays. The four-man unit of Ng, Collin Chong, Ahmed and Brayan Basabe swam the 800 in 9:00.43 while Ribaya, Ng, Chong and Regan swam the 400 in 3:33.86. 

Mt. San Antonio won the team crown for the seventh time in the last eight years of the finals meet.
