  • Softball Goes Distance With #5 Santiago Canyon, Season Ends

    The Pasadena City College softball team, seeded No. 12, gave No. 5 seed and host Santiago Canyon all it could handle during a closely-played SoCal Regional First Round series, but the Hawks ultimately eliminated the Lancers, two games-to-one.

    Letterman Angel Wintercorn and transfer sophomores Angelica Lopez and Briana Hernandez were selected to the 2018 All-South Coast Conference North Division First Team by conference coaches at their season-ending meeting April 26.

    For the second straight season, the Pasadena City College softball team is headed to the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The 25-15 Lancers finished in second place in the South Coast Conference North Division and earned the original #13 seed but were moved to #12 to avoid same conference first-round matchups. PCC will play a best-of-3-game series at No. 5 Santiago Canyon College this Friday-Saturday, May 4-5.

    In arguably the greatest pitching performance ever by a Pasadena City College softball pitcher made by sophomore ace Angel Wintercorn, it was Amanda "Walk-Off" Flores once again driving in a game-ending run as the Lancers edged visiting East Los Angeles, 2-1, in eight innings on Monday.
  • Letdown For Softball After Cerritos Road Win

    It was a week of highs and lows for the Pasadena City College softball team. A 13-inning win over Chaffey Tuesday was followed by Wednesday's euphoric comeback triumph at Cerritos College, 12-6, But the Lancers peaked it seemed at that point as flat home performances resulted in a 10-1, 7-inning loss to South Coast Conference North Division leader Mt. San Antonio on Thursday, then Friday's 6-2 defeat against Southwestern in a non-conference game.
  • Epic Softball Marathon Decided In 13th Inning On Another Flores Walk-Off

    Just call her Amanda Walk-Off. For the third time this season, first baseman Amanda Flores delivered the game-winning RBI on a game's final at bat as the Pasadena City College softball team outlasted Chaffey, 7-6, in 13 innings Tuesday at Robinson Park. Flores ripped a double to left center to score Briana Hernandez from second base in ending the 3-hour, 16-minute affair.
  • PCC Softball Coach Tantlinger Picks Up 100th Win, Sophomores Honored

    Friday was a day of celebration for the Pasadena City College softball team. From the team's honoring its nine sophomores with a ceremony involving the players' parents to winning a pair of games as part of a 3-way tourney hosted at PCC's off-campus Robinson Park field. And for good measure, Lancers head coach Monica Tantlinger reached her milestone win No. 100 in the team's 9-6 morning victory over Citrus. PCC closed the day, routing San Diego City College, 11-0, in five innings.
  • Huge Road Win For Softball, Now Tied 2nd In SCC North

    As big games go, Tuesday's 8-3 win at East Los Angeles College may have been the most important thus far for the Pasadena City College softball team. The victory snapped a 2-game losing streak and vaulted the Lancers into a second-place tie with Chaffey in the South Coast Conference North Division.
  • Oh Mercy: Pitchers 21 Straight Shutout Innings, Softball Extends Win Streak to 9

    The Pasadena City College softball team recorded its fourth consecutive, 5-inning mercy shutout to cap a host doubleheader Friday, routing Glendale College, 8-0, then Golden West, 11-0, at Robinson Park. PCC extended its winning streak to nine games while the pitching staff has not allowed a run in the last 21 innings.

    When rightfielder Nathalia Velasquez made an errant throw over the head of first baseman Amanda Flores in the second inning Tuesday, it marked just the first error by the Pasadena City College softball team in three games. But the Lancers have been soaring lately, and sure enough Velasquez immediately made up for her miscue, robbing a hit from Rio Hondo's Taylor Alcala by gunning her out at first on a dart to Flores that ended the inning.

    In one of the more well-played games by two teams this season on Tuesday at Robinson Park, the Pasadena City College softball team saw a 3-0 lead evaporate on one swing. But PCC grabbed the last hurrah on Amanda Flores' bases-loaded, walk-off single to left in the seventh inning that gave the Lancers a 4-3 win over state No. 10-ranked El Camino.

    Third baseman Angelica Lopez and left fielder Briana Hernandez each collected six hits in two games as the Pasadena City College softball team swept a 3-way, non-conference doubleheader Saturday at Orange Coast College. The Lancers whipped host OCC, 9-2, and then defeated LA Mission, 7-2.

    Angel Wintercorn became the second Pasadena City College softball team pitcher to toss a no-hitter this season on Wednesday. She retired 15 Compton College batters without allowing a hit as the Lancers powered their way to a 12-0, 5-inning mercy victory at Robinson Park.

    It may have been only a few days, but the Pasadena City College softball team felt good about its 2-0 start to the South Coast Conference North Division schedule. The Lancers were a half-game ahead of two teams in first place before visiting Chaffey knocked them off the perch with a 13-hit attack in a 7-2 PCC loss Tuesday afternoon.

    After six straight losses, the Pasadena City College softball team faced another deficit on Tuesday night when the Lancers fell behind host East Los Angeles, 4-0. With two outs and trailing 4-3 in the sixth inning, Lancers' catcher Jeneve Medrano, batting ninth in the team's order, came up with runners on second and third. The letterman drew the count to 3-2 and then calmly ripped a line drive, 2-RBI single to center field as the Lancers not only stopped their losing streak but opened South Coast Conference North Division play with a 7-4 victory.
  • Softball Rallies To Tie, But Cerritos Wins In Wild 7th, 9-7

    The Pasadena City College softball team rallied from down 4-0 and then 7-4, tying it 7-7 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. But a controversial umpire call at first, a key hit, and the infield fly rule came to benefit Cerritos in a 9-7 victory over the Lancers at Robinson Park on Tuesday.

  • Softball Needs 5-Run Sixth To Beat Compton, 14-9

    A slugfest was the last thing the Pasadena City College softball team expected when it visited Compton College for a South Coast Conference crossover game on Thursday. The Lancers opened a 9-3 lead only to the see the Tartars tie it 9-9. But the Lancers responded with five runs in the sixth and stayed perfect this season at 5-0 with a 14-9 triumph after the game was called in the seventh due to darkness.

    Freshman centerfielder Nathalia Velasquez knocked in four RBI to lead the Pasadena City College softball team to its fourth straight victory, 5-2 over visiting Long Beach City College Tuesday at Robinson Park. "Nat" is a big reason why the team is off to its best start in three years.

Lopez hurled the first no-hitter by a PCC pitcher in 13 years and centerfielder Nathalia Velasquez supplied the offense with a home run, triple and a single with three RBI as the Lancers shut out host Saddleback, 6-0.

  • Softball Hopes To Continue Winning Ways In 2018

    Last year, the Pasadena City College softball team reached the playoffs for the first time in 11 seasons. After a 25-win campaign, the Lancers hope to make a return trip to the postseason in 2018 under the leadership of head coach Monica Tantlnger. The coach has produced three straight 20-victory seasons and turned PCC back into one of Southern California's stronger programs.
