The Pasadena City College softball team stopped a 14-game losing streak and did it with bells and whistles. The Lancers shocked state #17-ranked Citrus, 8-2, on the road in a non-conference game on Monday.

The Lancers had been playing well of late, only losing to #16 Bakersfield, 7-6, to #19 Cerritos, 1-0, then playing a close 10-9 defeat at East Los Angeles on Mar. 22.

PCC started things with a 2-run homer by shortstop Breanna Negrete as she roped a ball over the left-center field fence, giving the Lancers a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Negrete added a sacrifice fly in a 5-run, Lancers fourth inning, then a RBI double in the sixth.

Second baseman Leiana Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and knocked in two runs on a single in that fourth. Seven different PCC players scored at least one run.

The other big story was the pitching of letterman Ivy Avalos, who scattered nine hits over the complete-game route as she pitched the best game of her PCC career. 

In the ELAC loss, Negrete, playing as the catcher, was 2-for-4, Rodriguez batted 1-for-3 with two RBI.

"We really pour into these kids and tell them that we believe in them more than they believe in themselves," said PCC first-year head coach Audriana Gutierrez. "Our group has had a tough road, but it's making them stronger to go through the tough times."
