While it stung to see the end of a 51-match South Coast Conference winning streak last week, the Pasadena City College women's badminton team regrouped and routed a 4-player ladder at East Los Angeles, 21-0, on Friday.
The Lancers (2-2 overall, 2-1 in SCC play) moved around their own upper ladder to get better experience for their middle and bottom players in singles. At #1 singles, Joanna Dinh downed the Huskies' #1 Elise Li, 21-16, 24-22, and defeated #2 Shuolei Shen, 21-6, 21-8. Karen Chen, at #2 singles, rallied over Li in three sets, 18-21, 21-12, 21-4, and beat Shen, 21-0, 21-6.
Charlene Chen, playing in the #3 slot, made quick work of ELAC #3 Lieifan Shu, 21-8, 21-12, and swept Nayeli Swales, 21-12, 21-9. At #4, Elizabeth Mondragon beat Shu, 21-10, 21-7, and got past Swales, 21-12, 21-17.
In doubles, Cindy Zhao, the Lancers usual #1 singles player, teamed with Charlene Chen at PCC's #1 doubles and needed three sets to beat Li-Shen, 21-14, 12-21, 21-10, and rolled over Sales-Shu, 21-8, 21-8. The #2 pair of Mondragon and PCC's #2 overall player Nikki Ching, swept Li-Shen, 21-12, 21-16, and were efficient in defeating Swales-Shu, 21-7, 21-7.
PCC next will be in action on Friday, Mar. 25 in a 2 p.m. SCC match at El Camino College.
