Women's Soccer Puts Up Lopsided Number, 9-1 Over Compton

Scoring the most goals by a Pasadena City College women's soccer team in 13 years, the Lancers poured it on against hapless El Camino College-Compton Center, 9-1, Friday at Robinson Stadium.

The Lancers evened their South Coast Conference record to 5-5-2 and raised their overall mark to 7-10-2. PCC is 5-1-2 in its last eight conference games.

PCC played a sluggish first half but after taking a 2-0 lead into the break, the team responded with a relentless offensive attack over the final 45 minutes. By game's end, the team had taken 34 overall shots at Compton and scored seven second-half goals on 23 attempts.

Midfielder Sandra Ambrosio scored three goals, all in the second half, including a patented 23-yard drive on a free kick in the 64th minute. She added two assists for a 8-point individual effort. Alexis Acosta scored two goals (and an assist) as did Leila Farazdaghi. Ani Hemelians added a goal and two assists while Talar Boshgezenyan scored on a header to open PCC's scoring in the 25th minute. Elena Heuze picked up three assists as eight of the 10 Lancers field players notched points.

The last time PCC scored nine goals in a game was on Sept. 12, 2002 against San Bernardino Valley. In 1998, the Lancers set a school record for most goals in a game with 18 in a shutout over Compton.

On October 29, Ambrosio's long free kick in the final two minutes allowed the Lancers to tie at East Los Angeles, 1-1. PCC then had its 6-game unbeaten streak snapped in a 3-0 loss at Pierce (a makeup of a game postponed due to heat index in September). On Tuesday, the team's 6-game unbeaten string in conference then came to an end in a 4-0 defeat against state No. 1-ranked Cerritos.

Ambrosio now leads the team in goals (10) and assists (five) for a team-best 25 points.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, the Lancers play at Long Beach City College in a 3 p.m. SCC kickoff.
