Roper Named CCCWVCA State Player of Week, PCC Women's VB Ranked #14

It was an exciting start to the week for the Pasadena City College women's volleyball team, ranked #14 in the first CCCWVCA State Top 25, while sophomore outside hitter Reese Roper earned the State Player of the Week #2.

Roper, a 5-foot-7 performer from Colusa High, earned the South Region selection after her strong play in four matches for the Lancers last week. Roper, who changed positions from middle blocker to be an OH this season, is relishing the switch as she totaled 39 kills (3.54 per set), hit .277, totaled 27 digs and five aces for the week.

She landed 10 kills (.474) v. Ventura, then tallied 11 kills in a win over Saddleback. Roper added 15 kills in a win over Santa Barbara CC. She averaged a consistent four points per set.

Besides PCC's state ranking, the team is rated #7 among SoCal teams.

PCC (4-2) is on a 3-match win streak and will face a stiff test tonight at 6 p.m. (Wednesday, Sept. 6) in a contest at #13-ranked Moorpark College (3-1). The Lancers downed the Raiders last year in a 4-set win at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium, but have found playing at Moorpark a tough task.

In 2021, PCC lost in a five-set thriller and in '19 the team was swept by the Raiders twice in a regular season tilt and a SoCal Regional Round 1 match. The program is 0-5 in matches at Moorpark since 1999 and 2-9 overall v. the Raiders. The only other win was a 2010, 4-set playoff victory played at PCC.
