Women's Water Polo Beats El Camino, 6-3

The Pasadena City College women's water polo team dominated the shooting attempts in a 6-3, South Coast Conference win over El Camino at the Aquatic Center Wednesday.

The Lancers (6-13 overall) improved to 3-4 in SCC duals by outshooting the Warriors, 29-17. PCC put 10 shots on goal in the first period to open a 3-0 lead. Two of the goals were scored by Ellie White in a 28-second span late in the quarter. 

Zuri Pulido and Kaitlin Mason, her second of the game, added second-period goals as the Lancers took a 5-1 halftime lead. After a scoreless third quarter, PCC closed out its scoring with a short-range goal by Jasmine Campirano on a one-time pass by Pulido with 3:40 left. 

Christy Lam picked up two assists while Irma Sarac led the defense with four steals (and an assist). Goalie Clarque De Young made six saves.

The Lancers went 1-3 at the Citrus Tournament played October 14-15. PCC's win was a 14-1 rout over Santa Monica as Pulido scored a team season-high six goals and added two assists and two steals. Sarac added three goals and two assists while Evangelica Child had a goal and four assists. Lam tallied three assists and De Young made eight saves. PCC had a tough 6-4 loss v. LA Valley in a game where the Lancers led early 2-0. Mason scored two goals in the defeat.

Coach Terry Stoddard's Lancers are averaging allowing only 7.32 goals per game this season, nearly matching that of last year (7.24). After 19 games, Pulido leads the team with 30 goals while Sarac is the top assists person with 17 and paces the Lancers in steals with 58. De Young has totaled 173 saves. 

On Friday-Saturday, Oct. 21-22, PCC plays at the Battle at the Beach Tournament, hosted by Long Beach City College. The Lancers open with a game v. Southwestern on Friday at 10:20 a.m.
