The Pasadena City College women's water polo team had its chances late but lost the fifth place final of the South Coast Conference Championship Tournament against Rio Hondo, 9-8, Nov. 5 at the Aquatic Center. The Lancers finished the year at 7-19 overall and were 3-7 in conference games.

Ironically, PCC played Rio Hondo three times over the team's final four games, each time losing to the Roadrunners by one less goal. RHC defeated PCC, 13-10, on October 22 at the Battle at the Beach Tournament (held at Long Beach City College), then 7-5 in the SCC dual finale on Oct. 26 before Saturday's season-ending contest.

The Lancers led 7-5 going into the fourth quarter, and then took their last lead at 8-7 on Zuri Pulido's goal with 6:24 remaining. Rio Hondo rallied and scored the game winner on a shot by Sabrina Miller with 3:01 left on the clock. 

Ellie White led PCC with two goals and three assists while Pulido, Irma Sarac and Jasmine Abriel each matched White with two goals a piece. The Lancers scored three times on the power play. 

Goalie Clarque De Young made 11 saves in her final PCC game. 

In the tournament first round, eventual finalist Mt. San Antonio limited the Lancers, 10-2. De Young made 13 saves, including stopping a penalty shot. White and Pulido scored PCC's goals. Kayla De Herrera scored six goals for Mt. SAC.

Overall, De Young made 450 saves in her PCC career, placing her third on the school's all-time list. Pulido, a freshman, led the Lancers in scoring with 42 goals while White, also a freshman, finished with 30 goals. Christy Lam led the team in assists with 25 and the sophomore Sarac made 71 steals to go with 20 goals and 22 assists.
