The aspirations of the Pasadena City College women's water polo team to do well in the South Coast Conference Championship Tournament were quelled as injuries/illnesses affected the roster. With not enough available players, PCC's 2022 rocky season came to an end this week.

PCC officially end the year at 1-17 but three of the defeats were forfeits incurred as part of the tourney that is being played Friday and Saturday (Nov. 4-5) at El Camino College.

The Lancers, eighth place in the SCC, closed out the game schedule last week in losses to Rio Hondo, 10-6, Chaffey, 17-7, and El Camino, 14-5.

Pasadena played its only "home game" of the year against Chaffey on Oct. 27 and celebrated its four sophomores--Mia Hernandez, Nickey Hale, Marina Schulz and Berte Montes. With PCC's Aquatic Center permanently closed due, the team practiced again this year and played this contest at Pasadena Poly School.

Hernandez led the Lancers in goals with 25 (plus 11 assists and 18 steals) while Schulz topped the squad in assists with 18. Goalie Gloria Gray made 127 saves, including a season-high 17 in the Chaffey defeat. Gray also led the squad in steals with 24.

Savannah Ortiz scored 20 goals while Hale added 13 goals.
