After being hired as just the third head coach in Pasadena City College men’s soccer history in September of 2016, Henry Cabral completed one of the most successful rookie seasons by a community college coach this past year.

Cabral directed the '16 Lancers to place second in the South Coast Conference North Division, earn a No. 7 seed in the SoCal Regional Playoffs, and led PCC to its best finish since 2008 (12-5-6 record). The Lancers recorded postseason wins over No. 10 Chaffey and a stunning rally and upset over No. 2 Golden West before losing to #3 Oxnard in the regional semifinals. 

Pasadena proved it was one of the top teams in California in 2016 when you consider its five losses came all against three of the four teams that advanced to the CCCAA State Championship.PCC lost twice to South No. 1 seed and eventual state champion Mt. San Antonio in South Coast Conference North Division play. The Lancers also lost twice to Oxnard and once to Taft, a No. 6 seed in the North but one that got through to the state final four. Against all other opponents, PCC was undefeated in 18 games.

From 2011-16, Cabral served as an associate head coach to head coach Edgar Manvelyan as he performed day-to-day operations as well as running practices in his tour as the second in command. The pair helped direct the 2013 team to the Southern California Regional Playoffs as the No. 7 seed. PCC finished in third place in the powerful 8-team SCC that season.

"I feel that one of my goals is to model and run our team like it is a NCAA program," Cabral said upon his hiring. "I want to bring back the discipline and academic success of our student-athletes. Holding our kids to high standards on and off the field is part of accountability. I believe this will ultimately result in wins."

Cabral is an area product when he was a three-sport star at Blair High. Besides running track and field and cross country, Cabral played three years of soccer and was an All-Rio Hondo League selection as a senior in 1996.

He earned a playing and academic scholarship to Salem International University (Virginia), a NCAA Division II college. At Salem, he played as a midfielder for four years and was team captain his final two seasons, earning All-WVIAC honorable mention. After graduating with a bachelor's degree from Salem, he later earned a master's in education/counseling at Point Loma University in 2005.

As a coach, Cabral ran the Blair High girls varsity program from 2002-2005 and the boys program from 2006-2013. His teams made it as far as the CIF playoff quarterfinals. Besides his PCC duties, he has served as head coach for La Salle High's boys’ team, coaching his second season after the team made the CIF playoffs in 2014-15.

Cabral served as Director of Coaching at F.C. Golden State Soccer Club, one of the region's largest programs for youths 6-19. He is now the Director of the San Gabriel Valley region for the Crescenta Valley Soccer Club. Cabral currently lives in San Dimas with his girlfriend Marcela Herrera and their child, Seven Alexander Cabral.

Altin Almary and Francisco Cantero (Kansas Wesleyan), George Barba (Cal Baptist), Gor Kirakosyan (UC Irvine), the trio of Michael Alcaraz, Yeyson Caballeros, and Eric Chavez (Manhattanville College, NY), David Gonzalez (University of La Verne), Khaled Gara (Whittier College), Rimar Daisley-West and David Krievs (Marymount College) are all PCC players who transferred to play at 4-year colleges.
